FARMER
Moon Hollow Ranch is seeking a full-time Farmer to join our growing organic farm on a long-term basis. You would be working on a scenic property near the town of Sonoma that is being developed into a world class estate. We are seeking a very detail oriented, hard worker with the ability to work independently. We continue to develop our year-round production garden and will be focusing on the expansion of this garden, which includes herbs, flowers, heirloom fruit trees, berries, hops, and an olive oil production orchard. The ranch also raises Babydoll Southdown Sheep, Nigerian Dwarf Goats, Kunekune pigs and heritage breed poultry. Our products primarily supply a restaurant in San Francisco, but desire to participate in a local farmer’s market.
Position Summary:
Under direct supervision of the Gardens & Livestock Manager, this position will primarily focus on the continued development, planting and maintenance of new beds for our production garden using organic and biointensive methods, recordkeeping, pruning, weeding, amending, and harvesting.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- The major responsibilities of the position may include, but are not limited to:
- Creation of new planting beds being established in rocky, volcanic soil
- Seed starting, transplanting, cultivating, weeding, watering, managing pests
- Installing and maintaining irrigation
- Harvesting, washing, processing and packaging produce for delivery to restaurants and in the future, local farmer’s markets
- Maintain inventory of seeds, materials and inputs, allowing ample time to reorder as needed
- Develop and update an annual crop plan with Gardens & Livestock Manager
- Assist in applying for CPC (Certified Producers Certificate), helping to develop and document policies and procedures that bring the farm into compliance with the California Small Farm Food Safety Guidelines
- Assist in expanding our CCOF organic certification to include our gardens and orchards
- Compost production and maintenance
- Additional tasks may include assisting the team with routine livestock tasks such as trimming hooves, shearing, administering medication as needed, milking goats, bee keeping, noxious and invasive plant management, etc.
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Past experience cultivating vegetables and/or orchard fruit
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks to completion
- Valid California Driver's license and clean driving record
- Full background security check
- Ability to lift and carry 50+ lbs
- Ability to work outside year-round, including in inclement weather with exposure to poison oak and rattlesnakes
- Ability to use equipment and power tools safely, taking extremely good care of all ranch equipment
- Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality and privacy
- Good time management skills and ability to make efficient use of time
- Good communication skills, computer literate and experience with google docs a plus.
Compensation:
$20 - $30 per hour depending on experience. Benefits include QSEHRA - a program providing tax-free reimbursement of health insurance premiums and qualifying medical expenses (proof of health insurance required), 401k with 4% matching, paid 30-minute lunch break, 10 vacation days, 9 sick leave days and 8 paid federal holidays annually. RANCH ASSISTANT
Moon Hollow Ranch is seeking a full or part time Ranch Assistant to join our team. We are seeking a very detail oriented, hard worker with the ability to work independently. We raise registered Babydoll Southdown Sheep, Nigerian Dwarf Goats, KuneKune Pigs, Livestock Guardian Dogs and assorted poultry, grow heirloom fruit and berries, have an olive oil production orchard and a production vegetable garden. This position hours can be between 24 to 40 hours per week and each shift is generally 8 hours: a set schedule is required, however there is some flexibility in the days and times you choose to work.
Position Summary:
Under direct supervision of the Gardens & Livestock Manager, the position will primarily focus on the daily care and feeding of livestock, mucking of the barn and paddocks, cleaning chicken coops, maintenance of our production vegetable garden, and other tasks on the ranch as needed.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- The major responsibilities of the position may include, but are not limited to:
- Ability to work safely and comfortably around multiple species of livestock
- Keeping areas neat and tidy at all times to maintain the aesthetic of the estate
- Observing livestock for signs of stress or illness, reporting any anomalies to the Gardens & Livestock Manager
- Daily feeding, watering and care of livestock
- Routine livestock care and record keeping, including hoof trimming, administering medication as needed, etc.
- Collecting, cleaning and packing eggs
- Mucking barn and paddocks as needed (spot mucking daily, full mucking weekly)
- Cleaning chicken coops on a weekly basis
- Additional tasks may include assisting with rotational grazing of sheep and goats using electric fencing, milking goats, beekeeping, assistance with production garden work, noxious and invasive plant management.

- Past farm employment or other experience with livestock animal husbandry
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks to completion
- Valid California Driver's license and clean driving record
- Full background security check
- Ability to lift and carry 50+ lbs
- Ability to safely work outside year-round, including in inclement weather and with exposure to poison oak and rattlesnakes
- Ability to use equipment and power tools safely, taking extremely good care of all ranch equipment
- Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality and privacy
- Good time management skills and ability to make efficient use of time
- Good communication skills, computer literate and experience with google docs a plus
- Ability to be punctual and keep a good attendance record ensuring livestock are not left without food and water on your assigned shift
